JEKYLL AND HYDE (2015)
For solo C trumpet.
Jekyll and Hyde is a character study after the gothic novel Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. The short, two-movement work explores ideas of binary juxtaposition and madness.
This work utilises an open-tubing technique whereby the 2nd valve on the instrument is removed for the duration of the first movement. All fingering combinations that involve this valve therefore produce ‘false tones’, and and immediate dynamic contrast.
